Club Runs List

 September 06 January 07

Groups For All Abilities

The development group is as it says, for people who want to develop their fitness and group riding skill. The run leaves the Victory roundabout at 09:10 with a café stop at 11:00(approx), arrive back in Basingstoke at 13:00/13:30. Average mileage between 40/50. Leadership of these runs will be on a rota basis by experienced members of the club.

Dependant on the number of people turning up for club runs, we also have the option a B group, for riders who have group riding skills and are confident of being able to ride 50 miles at approxe16mph average.

The A group is for experienced riders with a good level of fitness. The rides are quite steady at this time of the year but it does get faster from December onwards. Bernie Charlick leads the A group which leaves the Victory roundabout 09:10. Average mileage 50/65 increasing to 70+ after December. If you get dropped from the A group be prepared to make your own way home.

Please note all groups leave the roundabout at 09:10. Please arrive at 09:00 to have a chat receive briefing from group leaders.

Club Run Briefing Notes (Important please read)

Below are a few notes intended to increase your enjoyment of the rides.

If you are new to cycling speak to any of the CCB riders for advice on fitness, bikes, position, clothing etc. We will be pleased to help.

Make Sure Your Bike is in Good Working Order

When riding in a group slipping gears, chains coming off etc can cause accidents. If you have any known faults with your bike get them fixed before coming out on a club run. Club members will do their best to resolve any mechanical faults experienced during a ride, but we are not professional cycle mechanics so cannot take responsibility for any repairs conducted on the road.

What to Bring with You:

  • Back pocket food (energy bars/bananas etc)
  • Drink
  • At least two inner tubes
  • Tyre levers.
  • Money to buy tea/coffee and something to eat at the café stop.
  • Make sure you have identification on you (name, address and telephone number)

Dress Appropriately:

ˇ         Remember that a number of thin layers are better than one thick layer

ˇ         Bring a waterproof/shower proof top

ˇ         A helmet is not compulsory but highly recommended

ˇ         If it is really cold then gloves, overshoes and hat (helmet liner) are a must

Your Conduct and Behaviour:

You participate in the Cycle Club Basingstoke Club runs entirely at your own risk. The Club has a duty of care towards you. CCB members will offer appropriate instructions and advice on safety/road conditions during the rides.

The CCB will do all that is reasonable to ensure the safety of all riders.

The highway code must be observed at all times, by all riders, regardless of advice/instructions given.

Everyones safety depends on all riders acting responsibly.

Insurance:

Get your bike insured. The BCF/CTC offer tailored packages.

We recommend that you join BCF/CTC, so you can enjoy the third party/public liability insurance provision.
